Adobe Photoshop / Watercolor Painting Effect

  1. Prepare an image
  2. Duplicate the image layer
  3. Filter > Blur > Smart Blur - Radius: 10, Threshold: 30
  4. Duplicate the original image layer again and drag it up on top
  5. Filter > Stylize > Glowing Edges - Edge Width: 1, Edge Brightness: 15, Smoothness: 15
  6. Image > Adjustments > Invert
  7. Image > Adjustments > Desaturate
  8. Set the layer to Multiply
  9. Lower Opacity to 25%
  10. Duplicate the blurred layer
  11. Image > Adjustments > Invert
  12. Set the layer to Color Dodge
  13. Set the foreground color black
  14. Select Brush Tool - Dry brush, Opacity: 10%
  15. Paint over the inverted layer
  16. Select Brush Tool - Watercolor textured brush, Opacity: 50%
  17. Paint over the inverted layer
  18. Merge all the layers and duplicate it
  19. Filter > Artistic > Watercolor - Brush Detail: 10, Shadow Intensity: 0, Texture: 1
  20. Lower Opacity to 50%
